First Enercon E-160 in Bulgaria under construction near Balchik

Ventus is building the first Enercon E-160 wind turbine in Bulgaria, near Balchik in north-eastern Bulgaria. With a capacity of 5 MW, it will be the most powerful turbine in our own portfolio.

The turbine will be fully hybridised from day one with a CATL battery storage system of 11.41 MWh. Planning generation and storage together allows the site to deliver clean electricity when the grid needs it most, rather than only when the wind blows.

The new Balchik project continues a tradition of bringing new turbine technology to Bulgaria: in 2014, Ventus installed the country’s first Vestas V112 at a nearby site. It also builds on our long experience in the area, where we previously developed and sold a 2 MW wind project to Global Wind Power of Denmark.

We will share further updates as construction progresses towards commissioning.
